For Charlie,
.the rook lover.
.the badger lover.
.the fox lover.
.the grief tender of trees.
.the one who dances among the fae.
.guardian of the more than human.
.who’s real name is other.
.fire keeper and land tender.
.who calls her sisters back from the underworld.
Charlie’s altar cloth came from the chlorophyll green of nature—the spongy moss, the deep grass in the shade, and the fuzz of the beech leaf in spring. This weaving will support her, just as she supports the land with reciprocity. She keeps watch for changes in the soil, the roosting of the corvids, and the departure of the friends she has made.
Before I began to weave the threads of Charlie’s support into cloth, I pulled a card from the Weavers’ Oracle. Salmon: Ancestor of the Remembered Home – She Runs with the Earth Drum emerged from the pack and spoke.
She runs free—free across the unbroken and untouched lands, the earth receiving her bare feet like drumming, the heartbeat of the land. She is exhilarated, the wind in her face. Her feet made new pathways, and now those contours of the earth have become familiar. As she runs, she carries her drum over her arm. Like an intuitive salmon, she sings of belonging and of returning home—guided by the scent of the seasons or the movement of the stars, the returning song has summoned her to the source.
